SAMURAI ENGINE STUFF

Well, I decided to dedicate a page especially for the Performance goodies I bought for my Samurai. ( You didn't think it'd stay standard for too long did you ? )

For now nothing's on the engine as I write this as I'm still waiting for some stuff to arrive, but it's always nice to drool over some pics ;-) ( all done )

The first thing I bought through Ebay.com is a 32/36 mm Weber carb, with all the linkages and the adaptor plate to go on a Samurai ( 20-12-2004 ). I had it sent straight through to "Sarge" of MidWest Performance, a Weber/Samurai Guru in the States ( I read some posts of him on www.zuwharrie.com ) to have it set-up for Offroading and have a manifold made/changed by him so the flow would approve. He also makes a better adaptorplate as the standard ones are prone to airleakage. ( done, but sold that carb to Mustang and used the Weber that came with the Camden Supercharger )

I decided that, with a better carb. I'd need a better exhaust as well, so I looked on the Internet for headers and found an ad by Suzi's Place, a local Samurai/Vitara shop, only 20 kilometers from my home, where I have already been a coupe of times, very nice people, very helpfull ( even when I didn't even have a Samurai and just wanted to know what to look for when I'd go and check one out ).

They had cleared out the attick and came up with 2 headers made by a British company called "JanSpeed"

I told them to keep one of them behind the counter for me ( as they are very much in demand overhere ) and that I'd pick it up later that week.

As you can see every cilinder has it's own exhaust instead of all 4 coming together in one cast iron collector.. Cilinder 1 & 4 come together in one pipe and so do cilinder 2 & 3, and these 2 pipes end in 1 collector which will be cut down and a 2"pipe will be welded to the point where the collector is 2", making a smooth connection to the rest of the 2"system. Just need to relocate the bracket. ( done )

I need a Free-Flowing exhaust system too, so I ordered a Mini muffler from William from Suzi's Place ( in his spare time he restores Mini's and has used a Mini muffler on a Samurai in many occasions ) and I'll have the pipes bent and welded by Co Oskam ( who made the exhaustsystem for my Chevy ) in 2" pipe. ( done )

Time to pick up the headers ( 24-12-2004 ), I came into the store and Arno - the owner - said they found something else while clearing out the attick and they thought I'd like that very much

WERE THEY EVER RIGHT ???

He came down the stairs carrying something I had only read about a couple of times and never thought I'd see one for real !

A CAMDEN SuperCharger with a WEBER carb specially made for a Samurai

They ran it on one of their 1600 cc competition Samurai's but if they wanted to keep using it they'd have to move up 1 Class and they decided against that, took off the SuperCharger and put it in the attick, where it still was after 3 years.

Did I want it ? Couldn't they tell by the drooling from my lips or me constantly stroking this aluminum beauty ???

We talked shop and came to a price we could both live with, so now I'm the proud owner of probably ( almost certainly ) the only Samurai SuperCharger in the Netherlands ( and probably beyond the borders too ).

The Weber carb is a 32/36.

I'll go for an oilcooler too, just to be sure, so I bought an oilcooleradaptor with thermostat ( not the one in the pic below ) from Suzi's Place

It goes inbetween the engine and oilfilter, I'll have a forkliftcompany nearby make me the special hoses and connectors. I bought the secondhand ( hardly used ) oilcooler from Arno, the owner of Suzi's Place as he is putting a bigger one on his Vitara. Just need to fab some brackets to weld it to the frontbumperbar. ( done, but haven't connected the cooler yet, don't seem to need it, even Off Raod the engine stays cool enough without it )

UPDATE 28-12-2004:

I talked about maybe converting to a 1600 cc 8 valve ( needs to be 8 v instead of 16 v because of the intake on the SuperCharger ) somewhere next year, asked what needed to be done etcetc and coming home I told my wife about plans, prices and concequences during dinner. She pretty technical herself ( and learnig along side with me with all the changes ) and liked the idea. Within one hour ( I was still searching the web for Samuraistuff ) she came into my room and told me she ordered the guys @ Suzi's Place to find me a 1600 cc in good condition as a present for Christmas !!

This means I don't need the 1300 cc head with Calimini shaft and the Weber 32/36 that's still in the Statesanymore, but a friend of mine ( Mustang Sally, who helps me with all the construction ) plans to buy a Sammi very soon, so he bought it from me. ( never bought the head, guy that was selling it didn't come through ! )

January 15th:

Had Co Oskam make me a nice 2" exhaust, sounds good, like a racing car, pity performance isn't like it sounds....................yet ;-) ( done, and it dóés perform like it sounds  ;-) )

Keep checking back for results !
